You’ll hardly find a state that boasts as much state pride, culture, and friendliness as the state of Texas. While Texas is the second-largest state in the US, the saying is absolutely true: everything is bigger in Texas. From wide open roads, to barbecue, dramatic thunderstorms, and football stadiums (the US kind), you’ll experience firsthand just how seriously Texas are committed to being the biggest and best in everything.
Texas is easy to reach from across the U.S. and internationally thanks to its massive size, major airline hubs, extensive highway system, and good rail connections. Most travelers arrive via Austin, Dallas, or Houston, but regional airports and cross-state routes make multi-city or road-trip itineraries seamless.
Airports: Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) are the largest international hubs with direct flights from Europe, Latin America, and major U.S. cities. Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) and San Antonio (SAT) are convenient secondary options with growing international service.
Trains: Amtrak’s Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited routes connect major cities and link Texas to Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and beyond. Inter-city options are limited compared to Europe, so trains are best for scenic long-haul trips rather than quick hops.
Buses: Budget-friendly services like Greyhound, Megabus, and FlixBus run frequent routes between Texas cities (Austin–San Antonio–Houston–Dallas) and to neighboring states. Reliable for affordable travel without a car.
Driving: Texas has one of the best highway networks in the U.S. (I-35, I-10, I-45, I-20). It’s highly accessible from all neighboring states (New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana). Rental cars are easy to get at airports; be prepared for long distances and watch for toll roads.
